Tally beyond the app (API, MCP, developer portal, and web dashboard)

API keys and a developer portal, REST + OpenAPI, MCP for AI assistants, and a full web dashboard, plus more to come.

We’ve been shipping a lot of ways to use Tally beyond the app and have some exciting announcements today. I’ve been cooking up something big that will be released in the near future so stay tuned.

Here’s what’s available now.

Developer portal

Sign in to create API keys with scoped access. You can revoke keys anytime, and secrets are only shown once when you create them, so you stay in control of access.

REST API

Use the same keys to call Tally over HTTP for budgets, categories, transactions, and more. Import our OpenAPI 3.1 spec into Postman, Insomnia, or your own codegen workflow.

MCP (Model Context Protocol)

Connect Tally to AI assistants you already use (e.g. Cursor, Claude, and other MCP-capable clients) so your budget data can work alongside your tools, with the same permission model as the API.

Web dashboard

Manage budgets, log transactions, and handle your household from your laptop with no download required. If you can do it on mobile, you can do it in the browser.

Where to go

Thanks for using Tally. We’re excited to see what you build and how you use the web app.

P.S. If you use Cursor or similar clients, check the MCP connection guide in the docs for setup steps.
